WARNING: Your garage door springs, bottom brackets, and cables operate under EXTREME tension. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADJUST OR REMOVE as this can cause extreme injuries and death.
General Door Maintenance

It is recommended your door be lubricated once every six months. Do not use an oil-based lubricant (such as WD-40) as it wears off within a few uses. CVOD offers an industry-grade lubricant for this purpose.

For optimum performance of your garage door, lubricate every part that moves, such as hinges, rollers, and the spring(s). Thoroughly spray each part, operate the door two cycles and repeat, then letting the door remain closed a minimum half hour.

By regularly lubricating your garage door you increase the longevity of the springs, rollers, and hinges.

General Operator Maintenance

Each operator purchased from and installed by Central Valley Overhead Door, Inc. comes with an Owner’s Manual, outlining necessary maintenance of your operator. If you did not receive one at the time of installation, kindly contact our office and one will be provided to you at non cost. (Please have your invoice number ready.)

Weather conditions may necessitate minor adjustments of your operator, especially during the first year. Only a screw driver is needed for these adjustments. Adjustments should be checked monthly

Homeowner Maintenance Schedule.

Once a Month:

  • Manually operate the door. If it is unbalanced or binding, call a trained door systems technician.
  • Check to be sure door opens and closes fully. Adjust limits and force if necessary.
  • TEST THE SAFETY REVERSE SYSTEM: With the door fully open place a 2x4 laid flat on the floor, centered under the garage door. Operate the door. The door must reverse upon striking the obstruction. If the door stops on the obstruction it is not traveling far enough in the down direction. Increase the DOWN limit by turning the DOWN limit screw ¼ of a turn counterclockwise. Repeat the test, adjust as needed. When the door reverses on contact, remove the obstruction and run door through three or four cycles to test adjustment.
  • TEST THE PROTECTOR SYSTEM: With the door fully open place a cardboard box in the path of the door. Press the remote control button to close the door. The door should not move more than an inch, and the opener lights will flash. If your door closes on the object, call a trained technician, as this is a safety hazard.
  • If unable to perform the above adjustment, please phone CVOD. CVOD can make the adjustments for a fee.
